FSU Credit Union is proud to donate $10 for every completed direct auto loan in February to the Tyler Biggins Foundation as part of its Borrow 4 Less, Give Back More initiative. Each month the credit union supports a different local charity or nonprofit organization.

Tyler Biggins

The Tyler Biggins Foundation was established in 2013, the year after a horrific downtown Tallahassee car crash claimed the lives of 9-year-old Tyler Biggins, his best friend and his best friend’s mother. Their vehicle was struck by a driver under the influence of synthetic marijuana. Parents Marvin and Tracey Biggins work to keep their son’s legacy alive and make a difference in their community by helping to send as many deserving students to college as possible through annual scholarships.

The Foundation awards scholarships to graduating seniors who have completed at least 20 hours of community service and hold a cumulative 3.0 GPA or greater. It’s just one of the many ways that the Biggins have worked to directly impact the local community following the death of their son.

To raise funds for the scholarships, the Biggins created an annual basketball tournament in memory of Tyler, giving local youth the chance to play the sport that Tyler loved. The Tyler Biggins Memorial Basketball Tournament will be held this year from March 23-25. To register for the tournament, or for more information, visit the Tyler Biggins Foundation website.

The Tyler Biggins Foundation also holds an annual school supply drive and adopt-a-student Christmas program for Ruediger Elementary students; Easter and Thanksgiving donation initiatives for the Walker Ford Community Center; and works with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to spread awareness of the dangers of driving while impaired.

Biggins Foundation Basketball 2“The loss of Tyler Biggins, Vincent Vickers, and Shakeila Vickers was a terrible tragedy for our entire community,” said Michael Phillips, Vice President of Administration for FSU Credit Union. “We’re proud to work with the Tyler Biggins Foundation and support its mission of setting our community’s youth up for educational success.”

Borrow 4 Less, Give Back More has allowed FSU Credit Union to donate more than $200,000 to local organizations since 2013. It’s a win-win situation for FSU Credit Union members, as they can play a role in raising funds for local charities by financing or refinancing their vehicle at a great rate. It’s a team effort that directly helps to improve local lives throughout the entire year.
