FSU Credit Union is committed to supporting our community’s youth. As part of an ongoing effort through our Borrow 4 Less, Give Back More initiative, we’re donating $10 to Big Bend Homeless Coalition’s HOPE Community for every completed auto loan processed in April.
HOPE Community is Tallahassee’s family emergency shelter and works to end family homelessness by providing its residents with resources for housing options, employment, education and access to support services. HOPE Community also provides meals, laundry services and security to homeless families in our community.
The goals of the HOPE Community program are to end each family’s experience of homelessness as quickly as possible, and to support the safe and healthy development of children in the Hope Community Family Emergency Shelter.
In working with families facing homelessness or a crisis situation, the program provides short-term emergency shelter for more than 100 children per night, ranging from infants to teenagers. These children make up more than half of the shelter’s resident population on average.
By taking a comprehensive approach to helping each family it serves reach long-term self-sufficiency, HOPE Community ultimately helps more than 70 percent of its residents return to stable housing each year.
The program also works to provide the fees for HOPE Community children between the ages of 5 and 15 to attend City of Tallahassee summer camps. As part of this program, HOPE Community has several donation needs for summer camp supplies. These needs include:
- New or gently used children’s bathing suits
- New or gently used children’s closed-toed shoes
- New reusable water bottles
- Baby wipes
To schedule a drop-off appointment for summer camp donations, please call HOPE Community at (850) 792-4926.
Other donations needed on an ongoing basis include food items, household appliances, hygiene items, furniture, household storage items, linens and items for infants. For a complete list of accepted donations, please visit bigbendhc.org/needs.
FSU Credit Union is grateful to its members for allowing us to support HOPE Community through the Borrow 4 Less, Give Back More program. Other recipients in 2018 have included PACE Center for Girls, Junior Achievement Big Bend and the Tyler Biggins Foundation.
To date, FSU Credit Union has raised more than $200,000 to support our community.
