The 2019 hurricane season is upon us and we want you to know your credit union is here for YOU! If you are severely impacted by a natural disaster or any other kind of unforeseen event, FSU Credit Union has services and products to help you through the recovery process.

But, there are steps you can take now to protect your home and finances. Here are few guidelines:

Have cash handy. If you don’t have any savings set aside, consider starting an emergency saving account. And, keep a small amount of cash at home in a safe place. ATM/debit and credit cards may not work following a storm.

Store it safely. Gather and store all important documents in a safe, waterproof place. This includes identification cards, credit and debit cards, birth certificates, medical records, insurance documents, and prescriptions. Also consider scanning all important documents and storing them in a secure online location.

Make a list! If your home suffers damage, you’ll want a record of your possessions for insurance claims. Take photos and videos and store them with descriptions online or in a secure place.

Go electronic. Sign up for e-statements and consider using online billpay so your bills will be paid on time and you can access your statements in case you have to evacuate.

Keep medicine in mind. Make sure you have plenty of any prescription medication on hand in case you are unable to visit your pharmacy.

Plan and prepare. Have a disaster kit ready and make a plan with your family. You need to consider where you will go if you are forced to evacuate. And, don’t forget to consider your pets in your plans. Visit the Florida Division of Emergency Management site for more information and disaster kit checklists.
