FSU Credit Union Donates $7,250 to Hurricane Michael Relief Fund at Community Foundation of North Florida

Although months have passed since Hurricane Michael struck the north Florida region, communities are still reeling from the storm’s devastation. To aid in the long-term recovery efforts, FSU Credit Union recently donated $7,250 to the Community Foundation of North Florida Hurricane Michael Relief Fund.

The Community Foundation of North Florida (CFNF) activated its disaster relief fund immediately following the storm’s impact and is still requesting contributions to assist the 11 counties covered in its service area, all of which are in the FEMA disaster declaration area. FSU Credit Union’s donation to the Hurricane Relief Fund will be matched by the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, doubling the impact of the gift.

“Catastrophic damages of this level will take years to overcome,” said Joy R. Watkins, CFNF President and CEO. “Many of the impacted communities are rural with little to no philanthropic support and are currently in the difficult ‘gap’ between the immediate aid that came and are now still waiting for federal aid to arrive.”

“As a not-for-profit financial institution and keeping in line with the credit union mantra of ‘people helping people,’ we are dedicated to not only assisting residents in our service area, but also in our neighboring communities,” commented FSU Credit Union President and CEO Chuck Adcock. “We understand the need for continued aid to the areas affected by Hurricane Michael and are proud to be assisting in efforts to rebuild these communities.”

FSU Credit Union committed all administrative proceeds from its 2018 holiday “Skip-A-Pay” program – which allows members to defer loan payments – to hurricane relief efforts. In addition to the CFNF Hurricane Michael Relief fund donation, FSU Credit Union contributed to numerous aid initiatives through the local league of credit unions as well as directly to area credit union employees who were devastated by the storm.

Donations to the CFNF Hurricane Relief Fund can be made by contacting the CFNF at 850-222-2889 or visiting cfnf.org. Contributions to the fund will be exclusively designated for Hurricane Michael relief through partnerships with the appropriate organizations in CFNF’s 11-county funding area.
